ⓘ Assessment Instructions

Welcome to the EDI Scale of Modernity Assessment. This tool measures, on a scale of 0% to 100%, how far your school’s educational model has departed from the traditional school of the 1950s — and how closely it matches the attributes of a modern school.

How it works:

  1. 1Part One – Current Operations: 12 statements describing a traditional school. For each, choose Mostly True (0 pts), Somewhat True (1 pt), or Not True (2 pts). The less these describe your school, the more modern it is.
  2. 2Part Two – Attributes: 12 attributes of a modern school. Rate how true each is on a 0 to 5 scale (0 = Not True, 5 = Mostly True).
  3. 3Your report shows a normalized percentage for each part, from Very Traditional to Modern.

Why 1950s? Eleven of the twelve Part One statements accurately describe a school from the early 1950s (the computer statement describes a late-1990s school). A low modernity score means your school closely mimics that model; the higher the score, the further your educational model has departed from it — toward the modern equivalents measured in Part Two.

Note: You may take this survey as often as you like. All your previous assessments are securely stored in your history for later reference.
